This Isn’t the Time to Fix Everything

There’s something about August that makes you want to burn it all down.

It’s quiet. You’re tired. Your clients are on holiday. And suddenly, that broken link you’ve ignored for six months feels unbearable.

Maybe you start eyeing up your onboarding again.

Maybe you’re halfway through rebranding your lead magnet.

Maybe you have five tabs open with “better” proposal tools.

Maybe it all just feels a bit off.

And it’s tempting to think: Right, I’ll fix it. I’ll use this time to sort it all out.

But can I gently suggest… maybe don’t?

You’re not behind. You’re just in-between.

Summer has a weird energy. You’re still working — kind of. You’re trying to switch off — kind of. Maybe the kids are home. Maybe your brain is in five different places. You don’t have the full mental space to go deep, but you feel too restless to fully pause.

That in-between feeling? It can make things feel broken when they’re not.

You’re not failing because you haven’t updated your client guide.

You’re not a mess because your files are in the wrong folder.

You’re not lazy because you’re watching people on Instagram “use the quiet season to finally refresh everything.”

You’re just tired. Or distracted. Or honestly? Just ready for a break.

This isn’t a productivity problem — it’s a pause you probably need.

If you read my recent blog on burnout, you’ll know I’ve been talking a lot about overdoing it — about the pressure to “make the most” of quiet spells or push through when really, your brain’s already full.

This is one of those times.

Even well-intentioned admin can become another way of saying, “I’ll feel better once everything is fixed.”

But what if the real solution isn’t a system — it’s space?

Clarity doesn’t come from constant effort. It comes from stepping away.

Sometimes the best ideas, the clearest direction, or the most useful next step comes to you not when you’re deep in your Asana board… but when you’re out walking, cooking, reading, or simply not thinking about work at all.

If the only reason you’re trying to “fix” everything right now is because things feel wobbly or off, give it time.

Give it space.

You might realise it wasn’t broken at all — you were just burnt out.

You’re allowed to rest before things feel urgent.

You don’t need to earn a break.

You don’t need to keep fixing until you “deserve” time off.

And you don’t need to feel guilty for doing the bare minimum during the weird, slow-fast, half-switched-off month that is August.

This isn’t the time to fix everything.

This is the time to pause.

To rest. To notice what’s working. To gently let go of what’s not.

September will come. You’ll have energy again. And you’ll return to your business with clearer eyes — not from a place of panic or pressure, but from calm.
