What "In Your Corner" Actually Means

I called my main way of working with people "In Your Corner." I get asked fairly often what that actually means in practice. It is a reasonable question, so here is the honest version.

In Your Corner is not a set list of tasks. It is not a block of hours you buy and use up. It is an ongoing arrangement where I come to know your business properly. I then hold part of it with you so you are not the only one carrying the whole picture in your head.

The name is not an accident. Think about who is actually in a boxer's corner. They are not the ones throwing the punches. They are the steady person between rounds. They can see what you cannot see from the middle of the ring. They know you well enough to tell you the truth. They have already sorted the things you should not have to think about right now. That is the role. I am not in the ring for you. I am firmly beside you.

The founders it suits best usually are not in a crisis. Their business is working. From the outside it looks calm. But they have quietly been the only person who knows how everything connects for years. The mental weight of that has become so normal they have stopped noticing it.

Day to day, it looks like a lot of small things that are hard to put on an invoice. Something you mentioned in passing gets picked up months later at the moment it matters. A problem is spotted and solved before it reaches you. A quiet "I would not, if I were you" lands before a decision goes the wrong way. It is the sense that you can say a thing once and trust it is held. You do not have to follow up or chase it.

It is worth being honest about who it is not for, too. If what you need is a clear set of tasks taken off your plate, a brilliant VA is the right call. I will happily point you toward one. In Your Corner is for a different problem. It is for when you already have the hands and the weight still has not lifted. The weight was never the task list. It was being the only one who knew how it all fit together.

That is the whole idea. It is about having someone thinking alongside you who knows the business almost as well as you do. The quiet background management stops being yours alone.

If that has landed somewhere as you have read it, that recognition is usually the sign. It tends to be the thing people have been looking for without quite having a name for it. Now it has one.
